We believe in ‘leading by example’. Our people possess a huge range of technical capabilities, plus the motivation to use them towards improving the environment. In the workplace, we are continuously seeking new ways to put our knowledge “into practice”, proving that every activity, big and small, can have a positive (and green!) impact.
Green Month
Each year in June, Toyota leads “Green Month” across it European network. Each Toyota office is expected to proactively kick-off environmental activities in their local region. Recent examples have included reservoir cleaning in Slovenia, the distribution of energy saving toolkits and light bulbs at Toyota Belgium, as well as EcoDriving demonstrations and training at Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF). The list goes on…!
Carpooling with colleagues
Toyota’s European Parts Centre in Diest, Belgium (TPCE) has introduced measures to promote carpooling for its 850 employees, notably by making it easier for users of the programme to apply for possible tax benefits.
Public transport in the area is not optimal and cycling remains difficult given the uneven terrain. Developed with Taxistop, a Belgian carpooling organisation, the project makes it easier for employees to reduce the environmental impact of their commute to work.
Greening the local landscape
Toyota has a long history in coordinating tree planting activities at the local level.
“One Toyota, One Tree” was started by Toyota Caetano Portugal (TCAP) in 2005 in response to the forest fires that devastated areas of Portugal. The programme aims to plant a tree for every vehicle sold by Toyota Portugal. In 2008, volunteers planted a total of 19,000 trees during the two days.
TCAP organises the One Toyota, One Tree campaign each year in conjunction with Portugal’s National Association for Environment, Agriculture and Forestry Companies (AFENA). With their help, Toyota identifies forest areas that would benefit from tree planting. TCAP also looks after the young trees until they become established.
