Traffic accidents throughout Europe claim tens of thousands of lives every year. The number of resulting injuries reaches into the millions. Lost productivity, medical bills and compensation, loss of vehicles and institutional costs, such as those for insurance and policing, all add to the burden. From young to old, all members of the community are affected.

Toyota believes that all stakeholders in the road safety equation share a responsibility to reduce the frequency of road accidents. There are three main factors in that equation: automobiles, drivers, and the traffic environment. Each affects safety in different ways under different circumstances. While Toyota has devoted tremendous resources to improving its safety technologies, we recognise that complete safety cannot be achieved just by improving vehicles; it also requires safer roads and better instruction in safe driving techniques.
